Five details that make a candle look costly

Luxury candle brands charge for fragrance, glassware and the name. But what makes a candle look expensive on your shelf is mostly visual, and you can get those details without the price:

1. Gold. Real gold flakes in the wax or a gold rim on the vessel. It catches light even when the candle is unlit.
2. Marble or stone patterns. Marbled vessels look like a decor object, not a consumable.
3. Matte pastel or ivory. Shiny, saturated colours look cheaper than soft matte tones.
4. A sculpted shape. A braid, a twist, a shell or a flower reads as made, not filled.
5. Restraint. One strong piece, or a set in one palette, looks richer than six mismatched candles.
