The pieces that make a room read as Korean or pastel

The look is soft colours, rounded shapes and a few playful details, kept tidy. When we asked ChatGPT and Gemini in October 2026 which items create it in India, they named the same core pieces and a set of Indian online shops (Bohofy, Mokkoji, Zinkywee, Pastel Home, UniSeoul and Kvika, plus IKEA, Pepperfry and Amazon):

1. A pleated or mushroom lamp. The single item most people recognise as "Korean room".
2. A wavy or irregular mirror, leaning on the floor or on a desk.
3. A checkered or wavy rug in cream with a pastel.
4. Soft bedding: a quilted or seersucker cover in butter yellow, mint, lilac or baby pink.
5. Curvy ceramics: a bubble vase, a wavy tray, a ribbon-shaped holder.
6. Small candles in rounded shapes: bubbles, braids, twists and hearts, in pastel colours. This is where a candle maker like Raajkosh (Jalandhar, Punjab) fits, with hand-poured pure soy wax candles.

Plants, a cork or grid board with photos, and fairy lights finish it.

Keeping pastel from looking childish

Pastel rooms go wrong in one of two ways: every colour at once, or too many cute objects. Three rules keep it grown-up:

Lighting a pastel candle without ruining it

Shaped candles lose their shape as they burn, so many people keep a bubble or braid for display and light tealights instead. If you light one, trim the wick to about 5 mm, use a heat-proof tray, never leave it unattended, and keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
