Valentine's when you are already married

Valentine's Day 2027 falls on a Sunday, 14 February. For a married couple that usually means one thing: time at home together, without the restaurant rush. So the gift for your husband tends to be two things at once: something he will keep or use, and an evening you plan for both of you.

What husbands usually get, and where a candle fits

The common Valentine's gifts for husbands in India are a watch, a perfume, a wallet or belt, a shirt or kurta, a gadget he has been eyeing, or an experience: a dinner, a movie night, a short getaway. Many wives also cook his favourite meal at home, which is often the part he talks about later.

A candle does not replace any of these. It works in three honest ways:

1. As the setting for the main gift. Hand him the watch at a candle-lit table at home, not in the car.
2. As the gift itself on a small budget. Vanilla Reverie with a long handwritten note is a complete gift under Rs 1,000.

Set up while he is out, or after the children sleep. If you live with his parents, the dinner table version with two spirals is the one that works in a shared home. Light the tealights last. Keep the main gift by his plate.

A note he will keep

The line most husbands remember is specific. Not "you are the best husband" but the day he did something small that you noticed. For the evening: place tealights on a heat-proof tray, not straight on the floor or near curtains, trim wicks to about 5 mm, never leave them burning in an empty room, and keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
