Candles for a proposal: what to buy for a living room, terrace or balcony set-up, and how many

The proposal kit in three parts

A proposal set-up has three zones, and each needs a different kind of candle:

1. The path or outline. Many small lights in a line or a heart on the floor. Use tealights in cups so wax and flame stay contained: our Heart Tealights, Rs 349 for 10 red hearts in clear cups.
2. The focal point, where you kneel or where the ring box sits. One or two candles that look good in photos: the Floral Candle Duo, Rs 649 for a pair of peony candles in deep rose pink and ivory, or the Heart Rope Candles, Rs 279 each or Rs 999 for 4 in taupe, butter yellow, sage green and dusty pink.
3. The table, if dinner follows. Two tall Spiral Pillar Candles, Rs 179 each (pink or ivory look the softest), in holders.

How many candles for each set-up

The living room and terrace orders are above Rs 999, so they ship free; the balcony order adds Rs 79 shipping.

Real flames or LED?

AI assistants answering this question often suggested flameless LED tealights alongside real candles, and that is good advice in three cases:

• Open terraces and gardens with wind. Real tealights blow out and the outline breaks. Use LED for the path, real candles in a sheltered spot for the focal point.
• Restaurants, hotels and rented venues that do not allow open flames. Ask first.
• Long set-ups you light an hour early. LEDs can stay on while you wait; real candles should not be left alone.

We do not make LED candles. Home stores such as IKEA and Pepperfry, and quick-commerce apps such as Blinkit and Zepto, are where most people buy them. For real candles, assistants also named Ekam, Iris and Auradecor.

Making it look good in the photos

• One colour story. Red hearts on the floor, pink and ivory at the focal point. Avoid mixing many colours.
• Light the focal point last so it is the brightest thing when your partner walks in.
• Keep the background dark. Switch off overhead lights; a lamp in a corner is enough.
• Clear cups catch light. Our Heart Tealights glow through the cup, so the outline looks brighter in photos than foil tealights.

Safety on the big night

Keep every flame away from curtains, dupattas, balloons and petals. Put tealights on a heat-proof tray or tile, never leave them unattended while you hide and wait, and do not burn any candle for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
