If you want a candle that brings gold to a table, a mandir or a gift box, these are our three:

• Vanilla Reverie, Rs 549: soy wax with gold flakes on top, in an amber glass jar with a black lid. Our only scented candle (vanilla).
• Urli Candles, Rs 699 for a pair: urli bowls with a gold rim, filled with gold-flecked wax and topped with a yellow sunflower.
• Shankh Candle, Rs 799: a cream and caramel shankh filled with gold-flecked wax, with pink lotus blooms.

One honest note: we do not make solid metallic-gold pillar or taper candles, the kind that are painted or coated gold all over. Ours are soy wax candles where gold is the finish: flakes, flecks, rims and stars.

Which kind of gold candle do you want?

People search "gold candles" for three different looks:

1. Gold all over: metallic-painted pillars and tapers for Christmas tables and wedding stages. These are sold by decor and party stores. We do not make them.
2. Gold as an accent: a cream or white candle with gold flakes, a gold rim or gold details. This is a softer, more expensive-looking finish, and it is what we make.
3. Gold for festivals: candles that sit next to brass, marigold and diyas at Diwali or a pooja. Gold-flecked urlis and shankhs suit this best.

How to style gold candles

• White and gold: put Vanilla Reverie or the Seashell Candles on a white or marble surface. Gold looks brightest against white.
• Gold with brass: the Urli Candles and Shankh Candle sit well on a brass thali or next to a brass diya in the mandir.
• Gold for Christmas: Vanilla Reverie with a few ivory Spiral Pillar Candles (Rs 179 each) and some gold ribbon. Vanilla Reverie and one ivory spiral come to Rs 728.
• Gold for a wedding table: Urli Candles at each end, with petals in between.

Safety: Gold candles in India

Gold flakes and flecks are decoration on the wax surface. Burn on a stable, heat-proof surface, trim the wick to about 5 mm, never leave the candle unattended and do not burn it for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
