A hamper from the sister, for once

On Bhai Dooj the sister puts the tilak on her brother's forehead, feeds him something sweet, and prays for his long life. The brother is the one expected to give a gift. But plenty of sisters want to send something too, especially when the brother lives in another city and the tilak has to wait. A hamper of candles is a good fit: it arrives in the week of Diwali lights, and it stays in his home long after the sweets are gone.

On Raajkosh you build it in the gift chest builder: 3 to 6 handmade soy candles, then a chest style, a ribbon and a message. Each piece is charged at its shop price, plus the chest style. 4 or more pieces: 10% off the pieces. The builder shows the full price before checkout, so the totals below are for the pieces.

If you are the brother looking for a gift for your sister, our Bhai Dooj gift for sister page is the one for you.

Three chests for three kinds of brother

Your brother Pieces Pieces total
Has a home and family of his own Urli Candles Rs 699 + Diya Candles Rs 449 + Spiral Pillar Candles set of 5 Rs 799 Rs 1,947
Lives alone in a work city Vanilla Reverie Rs 549 + Seashell Candles Rs 899 + Sunflower Tealights Rs 449 Rs 1,897
Shares the gift with bhabhi and the kids Matki Candles Rs 599 + Lotus Candle Rs 349 + Daisy Tealights Rs 449 Rs 1,397

Add the chest style to each. A fourth piece takes 10% off all four.

A brother with his own home. The urli pair with gold rims for his doorway, six terracotta-red diyas for his mandir, and five twisted spirals in five colours for the dining table. It is festive for the Diwali week and useful the rest of the year.

A brother alone in Bangalore, Pune or Gurgaon. He probably has no candles at all. Vanilla Reverie is our only scented candle, a vanilla jar with a black screw lid; the seashell pair suits a bachelor flat; ten sunflower tealights let him light up the balcony for Diwali even if he cannot come home.

A gift for the whole household. Four red matki pots with painted vines, a lotus and ten daisy tealights: things bhabhi can use and the children can help light.

Why a candle chest suits Bhai Dooj in particular

  • It belongs to the season. Bhai Dooj closes the five days of Diwali. A chest of diyas and tealights fits that week better than a shirt or a gadget.
  • It travels well. Candles are light and do not spoil, unlike mithai sent by courier.
  • It carries your message. If you cannot do the tilak in person this year, write in the message what you would have said at the thali.
  • It is not another sweet box. He will get those from every relative.

If you want his name on a piece, ask through custom orders with the idea and the date; custom pieces are not returnable unless damaged or wrong.

Timing it with Diwali

Bhai Dooj falls a couple of days after Diwali, so the same rush applies. The site's own line is "Order by 4 November for Diwali delivery". We do not promise any delivery date beyond that: orders dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and arrive 2 to 7 days after dispatch, so order as early as you can and check the estimate for his pincode on the product page. If it reaches him a day or two after Bhai Dooj, say so in the message; the chest is meant to last past the festival anyway.

The tilak thali, sweets and the rest

Our chest is only candles. Roli, chawal, the coconut and the mithai for the tilak come from your local market or sweet shop; a shirt or a gadget from a store. For more chest ideas, see our gift hampers page.

Paying for his chest, and if it arrives damaged

Payment is prepaid only (UPI, card, net banking or wallet); there is no cash on delivery. Orders of Rs 999 or more ship free; below that, Rs 79. Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery for a replacement or refund.

And a line for him, because brothers skip the instructions: trim each wick to about 5 mm, keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours, and never leave a candle burning alone.
