Gifts for your sister on Bhai Dooj 2026

Bhai Dooj falls on Wednesday 11 November 2026, three days after Diwali. In Maharashtra the same day is Bhaubeej, in Bengal it is Bhai Phota, and in Nepal Bhai Tika. The ritual is much the same everywhere: your sister puts a tilak on your forehead and prays for you, and you give her a gift.

By the time Bhai Dooj comes, her home is full of Diwali diyas. So the candle gift that works best is one she keeps on a shelf or dressing table after the festival, not another box of diyas. These are our picks:

Adding cash, sweets or something more

In many families the Bhai Dooj gift is cash in an envelope, a piece of jewellery, a suit or saree, or a gadget she has been wanting. If that is what your family does, a candle is a good addition, not a replacement. Two easy combinations:

If your sister lives far away, a candle is easier to send than mithai, which does not travel well.

Many brothers live in another city. If she likes candles, a handmade soy wax candle from a small brand is more personal than a mass-made one. If she does not, choose one of the above.

A note for her: burn the candle on a stable, heat-proof surface, never leave it unattended, trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting, and keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
