How small a hamper can be, and what it costs

A small hamper is the right size more often than a big one: a thank-you, a colleague's birthday, a neighbour who helped, a friend you are visiting for chai. On Raajkosh the smallest hamper is three pieces. You build it in the gift chest builder: choose 3 to 6 handmade soy candles, then the chest style, a ribbon and a personal message.

One thing to understand before you plan to a budget: each piece is charged at its shop price, plus the chest style you choose. We do not list the chest price, so the totals below are for the three pieces only. The builder shows the full price, chest included, before checkout. If your budget is a hard Rs 1,000 ceiling, keep the pieces well under it and check the builder's figure.

What you get in the smallest one: a twisted spiral pillar in one of five colours (ivory, pink, blue, yellow or navy), a bubble candle of soft wax spheres dotted with tiny red hearts, and a heart-shaped candle with a rope-weave rim. All three look good unlit, which matters for a small gift that will sit on a desk.

Picking a small chest by who it is for

• A colleague or a neighbour: Bright and sunny, or Smallest of all with an ivory spiral. Nothing too personal.
• A friend or a sister: For her desk. The lotus, the blossom ring and the heart bubble are pretty without being romantic.
• Your partner, on an ordinary day: A little romantic. Ten red heart tealights do a lot for the price.
• Your parents: Gentle and floral, with the lotus for the mandir.

A fourth piece brings the 10% off the pieces into play, but four small pieces will usually push the pieces total over Rs 1,000 before the discount. The builder shows the exact figure, so try it there.

When you need something smaller than a chest

If the budget is tighter, or you need many small gifts, skip the chest. What a small candle hamper will not hold

No chocolates, snacks, mugs or soft toys: the chest is only candles. If the person would rather have a small snack basket or a box of chocolates under Rs 1,000, a gifting site or a local sweet shop does that well. Shipping on a small order

Orders of Rs 999 or more ship free; below that, shipping is Rs 79, so compare the builder's final figure with that line. Orders dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and arrive 2 to 7 days after dispatch; we do not promise a delivery date, so check the estimate for the pincode on the product page. Payment is prepaid only (UPI, card, net banking or wallet); no cash on delivery. Report damage within 24 hours of delivery for a replacement or refund.

The safety line for a small gift too: trim the wick to about 5 mm, keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours, and never leave a candle burning alone.
