Gifts for elderly parents who love their pooja: seven ideas that make the daily ritual easier

For elderly parents who do daily pooja, the best gifts make the ritual easier: an akhand brass diya, a lighter pooja thali, a bhajan speaker, a comfortable aasan, or ready-to-light pooja candles in their own cups such as Raajkosh Diya Candles (Rs 449 for 6) or a Lotus Candle (Rs 349). IGP, FNP, Amazon and Flipkart were the sellers AI assistants named.

Key takeaways

Seven gifts that suit an older parent's pooja

For a parent in their 60s, 70s or 80s, the pooja is often the most important part of the day, and also the part where small things get hard: bending to the floor, filling oil, lighting many wicks, reading small print in a prayer book. The kindest gift makes the ritual easier without changing it. When we asked ChatGPT and Gemini this question (October 2026), they suggested brass pooja items (an akhand diya, a thali set, a bell), a devotional audio player and gifting sellers such as IGP, FNP, Amazon and Flipkart. Here is a fuller list.

  1. An akhand diya in brass. A covered lamp that burns steadily with less refilling. Brass makers and the big marketplaces sell these; check that the glass chimney is included.
  2. A devotional audio player or small speaker. Preloaded bhajans and aartis, with big buttons. Good for a parent whose eyesight makes reading hard.
  3. A lighter pooja thali set. Brass is traditional but heavy. A smaller, lighter thali is easier for shaky hands.
  4. A cushioned aasan or a low pooja stool. For a parent who finds sitting on the floor painful. Often the most used gift on this list.
  5. Ready-to-light diyas, so there is no oil to pour. Raajkosh Diya Candles, Rs 449 for 6: soy wax poured into terracotta-red diyas with a carved lattice rim. Each sits steady in its own cup.
  6. A single lotus or shankh for the mandir. The Raajkosh Lotus Candle, Rs 349 (green leaves with a red bloom, or coral pink), or the Shankh Candle, Rs 799, a conch vessel with gold-flecked soy wax and pink lotus blooms.
  7. A large-print prayer book or aarti sangrah. Simple, inexpensive and used every day.

Choosing for an older parent: what to think about

  • Hands. If filling oil or striking a matchstick is hard, ready-to-light candles in cups, a long gas lighter or an LED diya help.
  • Eyes. Large print and audio beat small text.
  • Knees and back. An aasan, a stool or a raised mandir shelf can matter more than any decoration.
  • Memory. If a parent sometimes forgets a lit lamp, choose LED diyas for daily use and keep real flames for festival days when family is around.
  • Their rituals. Some parents light only ghee or oil diyas in the mandir. Ask before you replace anything; wax candles can go beside the mandir, at the doorway or on the window instead.

Where our candles fit in a parent's pooja, and what to buy elsewhere

  • Hand-poured pure soy wax, made in Jalandhar, Punjab, in shapes made for the pooja room.
  • Dispatch in 24 to 48 hours, delivery 2 to 7 days after dispatch, anywhere we ship in India.
  • Prepaid only (UPI, card, net banking or wallet through Razorpay): your parents pay nothing at the door. There is no cash on delivery.
  • Free shipping from Rs 999; Rs 79 below.
  • Damage reported within 24 hours of delivery is replaced or refunded.

Buy elsewhere for brass items, audio players, thalis, aasans and books: we make candles only. Buy LED diyas, not candles, if a parent lives alone and may forget a flame.

Safety for an older home

Never leave a lit candle or diya unattended. Trim the wick to about 5 mm, place candles on a metal plate away from cloth, flowers and the curtain of the mandir, and keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
