Where to order diyas for Kartik Purnima, by the kind of lamp you want

Dev Deepawali is celebrated on Kartik Purnima, which falls in late November 2026 (check your panchang for the exact date and muhurat). The ghats of Varanasi are lit with lakhs of diyas, and at home many families light lamps at the doorway, the tulsi, the mandir and near water. Your shopping depends on which of these you are doing.

  1. Plain clay diyas in large numbers. Pooja stores such as Satvik and online samagri shops like Puja Samagri Online sell them by the dozen. Marketplaces (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho) carry bulk packs. Zepto and Blinkit help on the day itself, in cities they serve.
  2. Painted or designer diyas for display. Home brands such as Nestasia and Home Centre, and craft sellers like Vedikcraft, sell decorated diyas and holders.
  3. Ready-to-light soy diya candles. No oil, no wick to set. Raajkosh Diya Candles are Rs 449 for a pack of 6, terracotta-red diyas with a carved lattice rim, hand-poured in Jalandhar.
  4. A centrepiece for the mandir or tulsi. Raajkosh Lotus Candle at Rs 349 (green and red, or coral pink) or the Urli Candles pair at Rs 699, gold-rimmed flower bowls topped with a sunflower.
  5. Small pots for steps. Raajkosh Matki Candles, Rs 599 for 4 red matki pots with a painted vine border.

Deep daan on water needs a different lamp

Many people offer deep daan on Kartik Purnima, floating a lamp on a river, a temple kund or a bowl of water at home. For that you want a lamp made to float: leaf (patta) diyas, small clay diyas on a leaf boat, or floating wax lamps sold by pooja stores.

Our candles are not made to float. They are poured into ceramic and clay-style vessels that sit on a flat surface. Do not set them on water. Buy floating diyas from a pooja shop for the deep daan, and use ours on the steps and ledges around it.

If you will be at the ghats in Varanasi, many families buy diyas from the vendors along the ghats on the day, which saves carrying them. Shopping online makes most sense for lighting at home or in a housing society.

Matching the diya to the spot

  • Doorway and rangoli: a row of six soy diyas reads well and does not drip oil on the rangoli colours.
  • Tulsi plant: one lamp is customary in many homes. A single clay diya with ghee, or one Lotus Candle placed beside the pot.
  • Home mandir: a steady, unscented lamp. Keep it away from cloth and the marigold mala.
  • Society or terrace lighting: this is where quantity matters. Buy plain clay diyas or plain tealights in bulk, and mix in a few decorative pieces where people gather.

What Raajkosh can and cannot send for Kartik Purnima

We are a small, new workshop in Jalandhar, so be clear on what we do:

  • We make shaped, unscented soy candles in diya, matki, lotus and urli forms. We do not sell clay diyas, floating diyas, oil or wicks.
  • We sell in packs, not cartons. Two packs of Diya Candles give you 12 lamps for Rs 898; for a hundred lamps on a terrace, a bulk clay pack is the sensible buy.
  • Dispatch in 24 to 48 hours, then delivery in 2 to 7 days. Order early and check the delivery estimate for your pincode on the product page; we do not promise a date.
  • Free shipping from Rs 999, Rs 79 below. Diya Candles plus Urli Candles come to Rs 1,148, which ships free.
  • Prepaid only (UPI, card, net banking or wallet through Razorpay). No cash on delivery.
  • Breakage reported within 24 hours of delivery is replaced or refunded.

Open flames near water, cloth and crowds

Ghat steps and terraces get crowded and windy. Keep lamps on flat stone, away from saris and dupattas, never leave a flame unattended, trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting, and keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
