Pillar candles online in India: prices, sets and what to buy for your table

Pillar candles online in India

Our pillar candle is the Spiral Pillar Candle: a tall, free-standing candle in pure soy wax with a twist running down its body. It costs Rs 179 for one, in ivory, pink, blue, yellow or navy, or Rs 799 for the set of five, one of each colour. It is hand-poured in our workshop in Jalandhar and ships anywhere in India.

We make one pillar style, not a full range. If you want a plain, smooth white pillar or a very large church-style pillar, read the section on other sellers below so you buy the right thing.

What a pillar candle is, and what it is not

A pillar candle stands on its own without a jar or a cup. It is thicker than a taper (the thin dinner candle) and taller than a tealight. Because it stands alone, it needs a flat plate or holder underneath to catch any wax.

How to choose a pillar candle

• Plain or designed. Plain pillars disappear into the background; that is fine for a restaurant. At home, people buy pillars to be looked at, so the twist on our spiral pillar gives the table some shape even when the candle is not lit.
• One colour or mixed. A row of three ivory pillars looks calm and suits a wedding or a white room. A mixed set of five works on a long dining table or a party buffet. Navy and ivory together look smart for a dinner; yellow and pink suit Diwali and a birthday table.
• Count for the space. One pillar on a side table, three on a coffee table, five down a dining table for six people.
• Pick a holder that grips. A spiral pillar should sit upright in a holder or on a flat plate wide enough to catch drips.
• Fragrance. Our pillars have no fragrance added. If you want scent in the same room, pair them with one jar candle such as Vanilla Reverie (Rs 549) rather than buying scented pillars.

Low, wide alternatives from our range

If you like the look of a pillar but want something shorter for a tray or a gift box:

Where else to buy pillar candles

• Home decor chains and large marketplaces for plain smooth pillars, ribbed pillars and big 3 or 4 inch wide pillars, often in white or cream. Check whether the wax is paraffin or soy; many listings do not say.
• Scented pillar ranges from fragrance-led candle brands, if you want the pillar itself to carry scent.
• Wholesale portals for hotels, events and churches that need dozens of identical pillars.
• LED pillars from electronics and decor sellers, if an open flame is not allowed, for example in a rented banquet hall.

Burning a pillar candle safely

Stand it upright on a heat-proof plate or holder on a stable surface, away from curtains. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before each use, never leave it burning unattended, and stop after 3 to 4 hours at a time.
