A thank-you that names the person and the reason

A thank-you gift works when it is specific. "Thank you" on a box of sweets is kind; "Dr Mehra, thank you for Papa's surgery" on a small candle is remembered. The name and the reason are the personal part, more than the object.

Small pieces for a thank-you

A thank-you gift should be modest. Too big and it feels like a payment.

The single Heart Rope Candle's own product page calls it "a small, thoughtful thank-you", and that is the scale to aim for.

Who you are thanking, and what to write

• A doctor or nurse after a hospital stay: their name and one line: "For looking after Maa in Room 204." Many hospitals have rules on gifts to staff, so ask first. A pack of tealights for the nurses' station, kept unlit, may be easier to accept than something for one person.
• A teacher: "Ma'am, thank you for this year. Aanya, 5B." (The gift is for the adult; never hand a candle to a child to carry.)
• A neighbour: "For the keys, the plants and the parcels. The Guptas, 3B."
• Friends who helped at a wedding or a move: their names and the event: "Rohan, for the sangeet chaos."
• Hosts who put you up: the family name and the city.

One line is enough. Tags are small, and thank-yous get read in a second.

Many thank-yous at once

After a wedding, a hospital stay or a big move, you may want to thank eight or ten people. Two options:

1. Shop pieces with gift notes. Fastest. Shop orders dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and arrive 2 to 7 days after dispatch.
2. A custom order with a name on every tag. Send the full list of names in writing in one message, spelt the way each person spells it. We confirm the timeline in our reply.

When a candle is the wrong thank-you

Some people cannot accept or use a candle: hospital staff in many wards, someone who lives in a hostel, a household that avoids flames for a newborn or an elderly relative. For them, sweets, fruit, a plant or a handwritten card may be better. For an engraved plaque or a printed photo, use an engraver or a photo-print site.

Delivery, payment, returns

We deliver across India. Shipping is Rs 79 below Rs 999 and free above. Payment is prepaid (UPI, card, net banking or wallet); there is no cash on delivery. Shop orders can be returned on a request within 24 hours of delivery. Personalised pieces cannot be returned unless they arrive damaged or wrong.

If they light it: a heat-proof surface, never left unattended, each burn kept to 3 to 4 hours.
