The in-between months need their own gift

An engagement in India is often followed by months of planning, two families meeting, and a lot of phone calls. Gifts to each other in this time are small and frequent: a birthday that falls before the wedding, a first Valentine's Day as an engaged couple, a "sorry the venue fight got ugly" evening. A personalised gift here is less about luxury and more about saying "us" before the wedding makes it official.

The word is spelt two ways in English, and people search for both. Here is a pick for each.

What goes on the tag before the wedding

The engaged period has its own words. Some that work on a one-line tag:

• Your initials and the wedding date: "S and A, 08.02.2027".
• A countdown: "97 days to go". (Order with time to spare so the number is still true when it arrives.)
• The date of the roka.
• Her or his new title: "To my future wife" or "For the groom".
• The name of the place you first met, if your families introduced you there.

If your families are traditional, choose wording you would be comfortable having parents read. Gifts get opened in front of relatives.

Sending it to their home

Before the wedding, you usually live apart, often in different cities. We deliver across India: shop orders dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and arrive 2 to 7 days after dispatch. Put their address and phone number at checkout, and write your note on the product page. Check the delivery estimate for their pincode before you pay. Payment is prepaid only (UPI, card, net banking or wallet), so nobody at their home is asked to pay; there is no cash on delivery.

Custom pieces and the wedding rush

If you want a custom piece, for example candles in your wedding colours with both initials, ask early. Wedding season is busy for everyone, and a wedding date does not move. We confirm the timeline in our reply and never promise one on a page. If the date is close, a shop piece with a gift note is the safer choice.

What other shops do better

Engraved couple rings, name pendants, photo books of your courtship, a custom illustration of the two of you, or matching watches. Jewellers, engravers, photo-book printers and illustrators do these well. A candle is the small, frequent gift between the big ones.

Returns and safety

Shop orders: request a return within 24 hours of delivery. Personalised pieces cannot be returned unless they arrive damaged or wrong.

A lit candle needs a heat-proof surface and someone in the room; keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours.
