Paying from abroad, delivering in India: the direct answer

You live outside India and you want a gift at your family's door in India. Almost every Indian store will deliver to an Indian address; the real question is whether your card, issued outside India, is accepted at checkout. That is set by each store and its payment gateway, and it can change, so the honest answer is: try the checkout, and keep a back-up.

When we asked ChatGPT and Gemini this question blind (November 2026), they named these kinds of shop:

1. Large gifting portals (Ferns N Petals / FNP, IGP). Built for gifts to Indian homes: flowers, cakes, hampers, often with same-day or fixed-slot delivery in many cities. Best when the date matters.
2. NRI gift senders (GiftsToIndia24x7 and similar). Sites aimed at people ordering from overseas.
3. Marketplaces (Amazon India). Best for a specific product, an appliance or a book.
4. Brand stores (Tanishq for jewellery, gourmet hamper brands for food). Best when you know the brand your family likes.

Three checks before you pay from another country

• The card. Go to the checkout and see whether your card is accepted. If it is not, a family member in India can pay by UPI on the same order. • The address. Type the family's full Indian address and pincode as the delivery address, and your own email for the order updates. Add a working Indian phone number for the courier.
