A gift for two people who are about to set up a home

An engagement gift sits between a congratulations and a wedding present. It should feel like celebration, it should be for both of them rather than only one, and ideally it should be something they can use once they move in together. A hamper does that well, as long as it is not a random basket of chocolates that is gone by the mehendi.

Raajkosh makes candles that come in pairs, by hand in pure soy wax in Jalandhar, and you can put them in one box with the gift chest builder: choose 3 to 6 pieces, then a chest style, a ribbon and a personal message. The engagement pieces

• Floral Candle Duo, Rs 649: two peony candles, deep rose pink and ivory with pink-tipped petals. The obvious "two of you" piece.
• Heart Rope Candles, Rs 279 single or Rs 999 for four in taupe, butter yellow, sage green and dusty pink. Romantic without being loud.
• Urli Candles, Rs 699 for a pair of gold-rimmed flower bowls. Shubh, and right for a family that would want something traditional.
• Heart Tealights, Rs 349 for 10 red hearts, for their first evening in the new place.

Three chests, depending on who you are to them

Add the chest style to each total. All three cross Rs 999 on the pieces, so they ship free. Vanilla Reverie is our only scented candle; everything else is a shaped candle with no fragrance stated.

Making it theirs

The chest builder's message step is where you write to them; use their names and the date of the engagement. If you want both initials on the tag or the box, or candles in the colours of their function, that is a custom order by enquiry: tell us the idea and the date, and we tell you what we can make, the timeline and the price. Engagements often come with little notice, so ask as soon as you know. Custom pieces cannot be returned unless damaged or wrong.

When the couple would prefer another hamper

Many engagement baskets in India are dry fruits and mithai, a bottle and two glasses, or a skincare set for the bride. If the couple does not live together yet, or one of them lives in a hostel or a PG, a candle chest may sit unused for months; a sweet or dry fruit basket from a good local shop is the safer choice then. If they are moving into a flat after the wedding, our chest is something they will unpack in the new home.

Timing, payment and delivery

We dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and deliver 2 to 7 days after dispatch across India. We cannot promise a date, so order early and check the estimate for the pincode. If the ceremony is in a few days, have it sent to you and carry it to the function. Payment is prepaid only, with no cash on delivery. Ready pieces: return requests within 24 hours of delivery; damage in that window is replaced or refunded.

A line for the card: trim the wick to about 5 mm, keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours, and never leave it unattended.
