Where to buy scented candles online in India

If you want a scented candle delivered to your door in India, ours is Vanilla Reverie: a vanilla-scented soy wax candle poured into an amber glass jar with a black screw lid and a finish of gold flakes on top. It costs Rs 549 (MRP Rs 699) and is hand-poured in our workshop in Jalandhar, Punjab.

We will be straight with you, because it saves you time: Vanilla Reverie is our only scented candle. Everything else we make is a shaped decorative soy candle (diyas, lotuses, shells, hearts, spirals) chosen for how it looks. Is a vanilla jar the right scented candle for you?

Vanilla is the scent most people describe as warm, sweet and comforting. It is not sharp, not floral and not smoky, which makes it the safest choice when:

• you are gifting and do not know the person's taste well. Very few people dislike vanilla.
• the room is small, like a bedroom or a study, where a strong floral or oud can feel heavy.
• you want one candle that lives on a shelf for weeks. The screw lid keeps dust off between uses, and the amber glass looks good even when the candle is not lit.
• it is a Christmas or housewarming gift. A lidded jar is easy to wrap and travels well.

Vanilla is the wrong pick if the person loves fresh scents (citrus, mint, sea), or wants a pooja-room fragrance like sandalwood or rose. In that case, look at the alternatives below.

What to check before you buy any scented candle in India

Most scented candle listings online look similar in photos. These four checks separate them:

1. The wax. Soy, paraffin or a blend. Many marketplace listings do not say. Ours is pure soy wax. If the listing is silent, ask the seller.
2. The vessel. A glass jar with a lid is easier to live with than an open tin: it keeps dust out, and once the candle is finished you can wash the jar and reuse it for cotton buds, pens or a small plant.
3. One scent or a set. If you are not sure what you like, a sampler set of small jars from a fragrance brand lets you try. We sell Vanilla Reverie as a single jar only, so we do not have a scented candle set.
4. The real price. Price changes with the wax, the fragrance oil, the jar and the brand name. Small tins and votives usually sit under Rs 500. Premium jars from imported brands often sit well above Rs 999. Vanilla Reverie sits in between at Rs 549.

For example, Vanilla Reverie with our Spiral Pillar Candles set of five comes to Rs 549 + Rs 799 = Rs 1,348. That is above Rs 999, so shipping is free. For Diwali, pairing the jar with a pack of six Diya Candles at Rs 449 comes to Rs 998, one rupee short of free shipping, so you would pay Rs 79 for delivery.

• Free shipping on orders of Rs 999 or more; below that, shipping is Rs 79.
• Prepaid only: UPI, card, net banking or wallet through Razorpay. There is no cash on delivery.

Using a jar candle safely

Place the jar on a stable, heat-proof surface away from curtains. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before every use, never leave it burning unattended, and do not burn it for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time. Let the wax cool fully before you put the lid back on.
