Non scented candles in India: fragrance-free soy candles for tables, mandirs and sensitive noses

Fragrance-free candles we make

If you want candles with no smell at all, almost our whole range fits. Every Raajkosh candle is hand-poured in pure soy wax in Jalandhar, and only one, Vanilla Reverie, has a fragrance. The rest are made for shape and colour, with no fragrance added. Good places to start:

• Spiral Pillar Candles: Rs 179 each or Rs 799 for five colours, for a dining table.
• Sunflower Tealights: Rs 449 for 10, for lighting many spots at once.
• Diya Candles: Rs 449 for 6 wax-filled terracotta-red diyas, for the mandir.

Who buys candles without fragrance, and why

• At the dining table. A scented candle competes with the smell of food. That is why restaurants usually keep table candles unscented, and the same logic works at a dinner party at home.
• In the pooja room. Many families already light agarbatti, dhoop or a ghee diya. A second fragrance clashes with it.
• For people sensitive to smell. Some people get headaches from strong fragrance, and some homes have someone with asthma or allergies. A fragrance-free candle avoids that trigger. If anyone at home has a breathing condition, ask their doctor about open flames in general.
• With pets. Many pet owners avoid fragranced products in small rooms.
• For gifting when you do not know their taste. Scent is personal. A shaped candle with no fragrance is a safe gift.
• For meditation and study, when you want a flame to look at without a smell to notice.

Our fragrance-free range, by use

How to check that a candle really has no fragrance

When you shop elsewhere, look for three things in the listing:

1. The word "unscented" or "no fragrance added" in the description, not just the absence of a scent name.
2. The wax type. Some cheap paraffin candles carry a faint smell of their own when lit. A pure soy wax candle has a very mild smell.
3. No "aroma" in the name. Candles sold as "aroma" or "aromatic" are fragranced, even if the scent is not named.

On our site, any product without a scent in its description has no fragrance added. The one exception, Vanilla Reverie at Rs 549, says vanilla in its name and description.

Burning any candle safely

A fragrance-free candle still has a flame. Use a stable, heat-proof surface, trim the wick to about 5 mm before each use, keep it away from curtains and pets, never leave it burning unattended, and do not burn it more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
