Planning ahead: Raksha Bandhan is in August

If you are reading this in the winter, you are early, which is good. Raksha Bandhan 2027 falls in August, and the sisters who send the best hampers are usually the ones who sorted it before the July rush. The rakhi itself is the easy part. The question is what goes in the box beside it, especially when your brother lives in another city and you are posting it.

A chest for a brother, not a sister

Most Rakhi gift ideas online are written for gifts to sisters. Buying the other way round, keep it plain and a bit grown-up:

Sending the rakhi with the chest

The chest holds our candles, and the builder's message step is where you write to him. We do not sell rakhis, so the practical way is one of these:

1. Have the chest delivered to you, then add the rakhi, roli and a mithai box and send the whole thing by courier yourself.
2. Send the chest straight to him, and post the rakhi separately in an envelope a week before, so both arrive in time.

Either way, write "Open on Rakhi" in the message so he waits.

What to write in the message

Brothers rarely say it, so the message is where the sister does. Skip the poem. Mention one thing only the two of you know: the cycle he taught you to ride, the exam night he stayed up with you, the fights over the TV remote. Then the line every bhai expects: that the shagun is still due. Keep it short enough to fit the builder's message step, and sign it the way you sign your texts to him.

When your brother needs a different hamper

A candle chest is the wrong gift for a brother in a hostel or PG that bans flames, for a teenager, or for someone who simply is not into decor. For him, think a snack or chocolate hamper, a grooming kit, a good wallet, headphones, or a gaming gift card. Rakhi hamper sites and sweet shops do food baskets well. Pick our chest when he has his own place and would actually light a candle in it.

Delivery, payment and lighting

We dispatch in 24 to 48 hours, then delivery takes 2 to 7 days anywhere in India. We cannot promise a date, so in August order early and check the estimate for his pincode. Payment is prepaid only, with no cash on delivery. Damage reported within 24 hours of delivery is replaced or refunded.

Remind him: trim the wick to about 5 mm, keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours, and never leave it lit when he steps out.
