Who is buying, and for which students?

People search for personalised gifts for students for three reasons: a teacher or professor wants a small gift with each student's name for the end of term; a parent or relative wants something for a student's results, admission or graduation; or a batch or society wants farewell gifts for its seniors. A candle fits two of these well and one badly.

Not for schoolchildren. A candle has a flame, and a gift for a class of children should not. For a primary or middle-school class, name pencils, name stickers, printed bookmarks or personalised storybooks from a stationery or children's gift shop are the right choice. We make none of those.

Good for college students and graduates. A small candle with their name on the tag suits a student of 17 and older: for a hostel room (where allowed), a graduation, a convocation, or a batch farewell.

Pieces that work for a whole batch

When the gift is for 20 or 40 students, each piece must be small, the same for everyone, and easy to carry home in a bag.

For one student: results, admission, graduation

If the gift is for one student, it can be a little more:

Before you gift a candle to a hostel student

Many college hostels ban open flames in rooms. A candle given there should be kept unlit on a shelf, as decor, or taken home. Say so in the note, or pick another gift. This is the single most important thing about this page.

Spelling 30 names correctly

For a batch order, send the name list in writing, exactly as each student spells their name, in one message. Check it against the class register. One wrong spelling on a personalised tag means one student gets a gift with someone else's version of their name, and personalised pieces cannot be returned unless they arrive damaged or wrong.

Give us your date as early as you can, especially for an end-of-year farewell. We confirm the timeline in our reply and never promise one on a page.

Other personalised student gifts

Name pens, engraved keychains, printed notebooks, personalised water bottles and graduation photo frames are all common. Stationery shops, engravers and photo-print sites do them well and often cost less per head for a large class. A candle is the choice for older students when you want something handmade and a little grown-up.
