How much to spend on a Diwali gift per client: budget bands by relationship, and what each band buys

Set the Diwali client gift budget by relationship, not by habit: under Rs 500 for a wide list of contacts, Rs 500 to Rs 999 for key contacts, and above Rs 1,000 for your most important accounts, always inside the client's own gift policy. At Raajkosh shop prices, that is Diya Candles (Rs 449), the Shankh Candle (Rs 799) or a two-piece box such as Urli and Shankh Candles (Rs 1,498).

Key takeaways

  • Use three bands: under Rs 500, Rs 500 to Rs 999, and above Rs 1,000, set by relationship.
  • Stay inside the client's own gift policy; a gift above their cap embarrasses them.
  • Decide the total first, then split it across the list.
  • Spend on the piece, the card and the packaging, not on fillers.

A simple way to set the number

There is no fixed rule for a Diwali client gift budget in India, but most companies end up with three bands, set by how important the relationship is:

  1. Under Rs 500 for a wide list: vendors, junior contacts, everyone who should be remembered.
  2. Rs 500 to Rs 999 for key contacts: the people you work with every week.
  3. Above Rs 1,000 for your most important accounts and decision-makers.

Two limits sit above any band. First, the client's gift policy: many companies cap what their staff may accept, and some public bodies discourage gifts altogether. A gift above the cap embarrasses the person you meant to thank. Second, your own total: decide the full Diwali budget first, then divide it across the list. It is easier to cut a band than to cut names.

What each budget band buys

Budget per client Typical gifts in the market From Raajkosh, at shop prices
Under Rs 500 A small sweets box, a clay diya pair, a plant Diya Candles, six wax diyas, Rs 449; Lotus Candle Rs 349
Rs 500 to Rs 999 A gourmet box, a small brass piece, a tea set Matki Candles Rs 599; Urli Candles Rs 699; Shankh Candle Rs 799
Above Rs 1,000 A larger hamper, silver-finish or brass sets Urli and Shankh Candles in one box, Rs 1,498; Marble Seashell Candles with Diya Candles, Rs 1,448

These are today's shop prices with GST included. Branding and delivery are priced in your quote, which confirms the final price per gift. When you set a band, leave room for them.

What to spend more on, and what not to

If the budget is tight, spend it on the things the client sees first:

  • The piece itself. One good object beats a box of small ones at the same price.
  • The card. Two handwritten lines from the account owner cost nothing and do more than an extra item.
  • The packaging. A plain box with your logo on a wax seal looks better than a glossy printed one.

Do not spend more on: fillers, oversized boxes, or a bigger logo.

Splitting one budget across a client list: a worked example

Say you have 40 client contacts. You might put 25 in the first band, 12 in the second and 3 in the third. At Raajkosh shop prices, 25 Diya Candles come to Rs 11,225, 12 Shankh Candles come to Rs 9,588, and three Urli and Shankh boxes come to Rs 4,494. That gives you a real starting figure to brief suppliers with, before branding and delivery, which the quote sets.

The point of a worked example is not the exact total. It is to see that the top band is a small part of the spend, so you can afford to do it well.

When our bands do not fit your list

If your clients expect gold, silver or electronics, our candles sit below that band and you should use a specialist. If the client's gift policy bans gifts, send a card and a call instead. If a client's office does not allow open flames, choose a food or brass gift for them.
