Buy diye online in India

If you want a set of diye delivered to your door, our Diya Candles are Rs 449 for a pack of 6. Each one is a terracotta-red diya with a carved lattice rim, already filled with hand-poured pure soy wax and a wick. There is no oil to pour and no cotton batti to roll: you take it out of the box, place it and light it.

We make them in our workshop in Jalandhar, Punjab, and ship them anywhere in India.

Wax-filled diya or a plain clay diya: which one are you buying?

When people search "diye" they usually want one of two things, and it helps to know which before you order:

  • Plain clay diye that you fill with ghee or mustard oil yourself. These are the cheapest per piece, you buy them by the dozen from a local potter or market, and they are what many families use for the main Lakshmi pooja diya.
  • Ready-filled diye like ours, where the wax and wick are already inside. These are for the rows you put on the balcony, the door, the stairs and the rangoli, where you want them to look neat, light quickly and not spill oil on the floor.

Many homes use both: oil diye for the pooja itself and wax-filled diye for the decoration around the house. That is the honest way to think about it.

Designs, if you want more than the classic diya

The word "designer diya" covers a lot. These are the shapes we make, all in soy wax, all ready to light:

Design What it looks like Pack Price Best for
Diya Candles terracotta-red diya, carved lattice rim 6 Rs 449 rows on the balcony, door and rangoli
Matki Candles little red matki pots, hand-painted vine border 4 Rs 599 a festive table, the mandir step
Urli Candles flower-shaped urli bowls, gold rim, gold-flecked wax, sunflower on top 2 Rs 699 the entrance, a centre table, a gift
Lotus Candle layered lotus, green with red bloom or all coral pink 1 Rs 349 the middle of a rangoli or thali

If you want a simple classic look, stay with the diya pack. If you want the "fancy diya" look people share on Instagram, the urli and matki sets are the ones that stand out.

How many diye do you need?

A rough way to plan for an ordinary flat:

  • Main door and threshold: 4 to 6, one pack of Diya Candles
  • Balcony or window ledge: 6 to 12, one or two packs (2 packs are Rs 898)
  • Rangoli: 4 around the edge and one centrepiece, such as a Lotus Candle
  • Mandir and dining table: a matki set or an urli pair

A common order is one pack of Diya Candles plus one pack of Matki Candles, which comes to Rs 1,048 and crosses the Rs 999 free shipping line.

Where else to buy diye

  • Local potters and markets are the best place for plain clay diye by the dozen, and for the big oil diya your family lights for the pooja. Buy a few extra, as some crack.
  • Large marketplaces have printed, painted and mirror-work diye, and LED diye if you want something with a battery. Read the listing for what the diya is made of and whether it comes filled.
  • Wholesale portals are for event planners and shops that need hundreds of pieces with a minimum order. We do not sell in bulk.

Lighting diye safely

Place each diya on a flat, heat-proof surface, away from curtains, dupattas and paper decorations, and out of reach of children and pets. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting, never leave lit diye unattended, and do not burn them more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
