How much to spend on a welcome kit per employee: three budget levels, what each one holds, and where the money is wasted
Most Indian companies set a welcome kit budget at one of three levels: under Rs 1,000 for a lean kit, Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 for a standard one, and above Rs 2,000 for a premium kit. Whatever the level, keep one small personal item in it: a Raajkosh Spiral Pillar Candle (Rs 179) or Blossom Candle (Rs 299) at shop prices, from 10 gifts with your logo on the tag.

Key takeaways
- Welcome kits usually fall into three levels: under Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, and above Rs 2,000.
- Choose a level you can afford for every joiner, every month.
- Cut extra printed items, unsized apparel and cheap gadgets first.
- Raajkosh supplies the personal home piece, from 10 gifts, from Rs 179 shop price.
Three welcome kit budgets, and who uses each
There is no standard figure, but welcome kit spending in India tends to fall into three levels:
- Lean, under Rs 1,000 per joiner. A notebook, a pen, a welcome card and one small extra. Common at startups hiring every month and at companies with large intake batches.
- Standard, Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. Adds a bottle or mug, a desk item and something for the first week. The most common level for mid-size companies.
- Premium, above Rs 2,000. Adds a bag or apparel, better finishes and a curated box. Usually for senior hires or when the brand matters a lot to the company.
Pick the level by how many people join each year, not by what a peer company does. A kit you can afford for every joiner, every month, beats a premium kit you can only send in good quarters.
What each level should hold
| Level | Practical items | Personal item | Who supplies it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lean, under Rs 1,000 | Notebook, pen, welcome card | A small home piece, such as a Spiral Pillar Candle, Rs 179 | Merchandise printer for the notebook; a maker for the home piece |
| Standard | Plus a bottle or mug and a desk item | A Blossom Candle, Rs 299, or Heart Bubble Candle, Rs 249 | Merchandise printer or a swag platform; a maker |
| Premium, above Rs 2,000 | Plus a bag or apparel, a curated box | Vanilla Reverie, our one scented candle, Rs 549, or Floral Candle Duo, Rs 649 | A gifting company for the box; a maker for the home piece |

Where welcome kit money is wasted
The biggest waste is items nobody uses. Three common ones:
- Too many printed items. A new joiner does not need four things with the logo. One good notebook is used; a branded keychain is not.
- Apparel in the wrong size. T-shirts and hoodies ordered before you know the size often end up unworn. If you include apparel, ask for sizes first.
- Cheap gadgets. Low-cost earphones and power banks often stop working within weeks, and the logo goes with them.
Moving that money to one well-made item and a handwritten card from the manager usually makes the kit feel more expensive, not less.
Why a small personal piece is worth its share
At the lean level, a Rs 179 candle is a noticeable part of the budget, so it should earn its place. It does when the joiner has moved cities: first job, empty PG room, rented flat. A home piece says the company thought about the person, not just the desk. It is the wrong choice for kits going to shared hostel rooms or factory sites, and it should never be lit at a workstation; it is for home.
How we fit into a welcome kit budget
We make the personal piece, not the whole kit. Our terms:
- From 10 gifts, no minimum order value, so a monthly batch of 10 or 15 joiners is fine. Fewer than 10, order from the shop.
- Your logo on the gift tag, note card or a wax seal.
- GST invoice in your company's name.
- Delivery to one office, or to each joiner's home across India.
- Prepaid, as set out in the quote.
At shop prices, 10 Blossom Candles come to Rs 2,990 and 50 Spiral Pillar Candles come to Rs 8,950. Our full terms are on the corporate answer page. We are new to corporate gifting, with no client list or reviews yet.
When to spend the budget elsewhere
If your kit must be one box from one supplier with every item branded, use a swag platform or gifting company. If your offices ban open flames and the kit is opened at work, skip the candle. If you need the logo printed on each item, a merchandise printer is right.
