One good thing, given well

A boss gift goes wrong in two ways: it looks like flattery, or it looks like an afterthought. The fix is the same in both cases. Give one well-made object rather than a pile of things, keep the price in line with your role, and where you can, give it from the whole team.

For the cabin shelf or the boss's home, a sculpted candle is a quiet choice. Raajkosh hand-pours them in pure soy wax in Jalandhar. The three we would put in front of a senior person:

Is it for the office, or for their home?

Most offices do not allow open flames, so a candle bought for the boss's cabin will sit there unlit. That is fine for the Marble Seashell pair or the Shankh, which are made to be looked at. If you want it lit and used, frame it as a gift for their home, for Diwali or for the evening.

If the boss genuinely wants something for the desk, think practical: a good pen, a leather notebook, a desk plant, a coffee or tea box. Those are what people usually give, and they work.

Personalised gifts for a boss, done tastefully

Personalised is where boss gifts can tip into too much. A big photo print or a mug with their face on it is a joke between friends, not a gift for a manager. What works is small and quiet: their initials or name on the tag or the box, and a message from the team.

Occasions this suits, and the ones it does not

When lit: wick trimmed to about 5 mm, a heat-proof surface, 3 to 4 hours at a time, never unattended.
