What working mothers actually want from work on Mother's Day

Ask working mothers what they would like from their employer on Mother's Day and the first answer is rarely an object. It is time: leaving at 4 on a Friday, a day without meetings, a school-event day that does not need a leave form. Doing Mother's Day at work with care

• Be quiet about who gets it. Not every woman on the team is a mother, some have lost a child, some are trying. Send the gift to those who are mothers by your HR records or who opt in, at home or on the desk, without a public roll call or a stage moment.
• Remember the fathers and other carers. Many companies now do Mother's Day and Father's Day as one parents' gesture: the same time-off benefit for every parent, with a small gift for each.
