Diwali gift for your husband: what men are usually given, and two candle gifts that suit a man's corner

The usual Diwali gift for a husband is a kurta, a watch or a gadget. If you want something for his space as well, Vanilla Reverie, our vanilla soy jar with a black lid, is Rs 549, and five Spiral Pillar Candles are Rs 799 for the Diwali dinner table.

Start with the kurta, then think about the evening

Let us be honest: if you search for a Diwali gift for your husband, the right main present is probably not a candle. Most Indian husbands are given a new kurta or sherwani for the Diwali puja, a watch, a wallet, a perfume, or the gadget they have been hinting about since September. Those are good gifts.

Where a candle fits is the second gift, or the small one when you have agreed not to spend much: something for his desk, his side of the bedroom, or the part of Diwali he is in charge of. Two of ours suit a man well. Both are hand-poured in pure soy wax in Jalandhar:

  • Vanilla Reverie, Rs 549: vanilla-scented soy wax in an amber glass jar with a black screw lid, finished with gold flakes. A plain, grown-up jar for his study or bedside. It is our only scented candle.
  • Spiral Pillar Candles, Rs 179 each or Rs 799 for a set of 5 in ivory, pink, blue, yellow and navy. Two navy spirals on the Diwali dinner table look smart, not fussy.

We also have a page on candles for men if you want more on what makes a candle suit him.

Match it to the husband

Your husband Main gift idea Candle that fits Price
Works from a home desk a good pen, a desk lamp Vanilla Reverie Rs 549
Hosts the Diwali card party a card table set, glasses two navy Spiral Pillar Candles Rs 358
Does the balcony diyas every year a new kurta for the puja Diya Candles, pack of 6 Rs 449
Loves the old traditions a silver coin on Dhanteras Matki Candles, 4 painted pots Rs 599
Not a candle person at all a gadget or a watch skip the candle none

That last row is real. If he has never lit a candle outside a power cut, spend on what he will use.

The Diwali job he owns

In many homes the husband does one Diwali task: lighting the diyas on the balcony and the boundary wall, or the lights on the gate. Make that job his gift. A pack of six Diya Candles in terracotta-red diyas needs no oil and no wick soaking, so he can line the balcony rail in five minutes. Vanilla Reverie plus Diya Candles is Rs 998: one for him, one for his Diwali job.

Spiral Pillar Candles set of 5 plus Vanilla Reverie is Rs 1,348 and ships free, for a husband who hosts.

Making it personal

A handwritten line does more than the gift. Thank him for one thing he did this year, specifically. If you want his name or initials on a candle, ask on our custom orders page with the date; custom work takes time, so for this Diwali the ready candles are the safer choice.

Other Diwali gifts for husbands

Common picks in India: a kurta or Nehru jacket, a watch, a leather wallet or belt, a perfume or grooming kit, headphones or a smartwatch, a gold or silver coin bought on Dhanteras, shoes, or a weekend trip after the festival. If he prefers woody or smoky scents, a perfume or a specialist candle brand will suit him better than our vanilla jar.
