Three Christmas candles we would pick

We do not make Santa or snowman novelty candles. What we make are hand-poured soy wax candles that look right in a Christmas room, and three of them do most of the work:

• Spiral Pillar Candles: Rs 179 each or Rs 799 for the set of five (ivory, pink, blue, yellow and navy). Tall twisted pillars for the dinner table. Navy and ivory together look the most like Christmas.
• Braided Candles: Rs 849 for a pack of 4 round candles with a chunky braided rim, in pink, blue, butter yellow and peach. Soft and cosy, good on a tray under the tree or as a gift.
• Vanilla Reverie: Rs 549. A vanilla-scented candle in an amber glass jar with a black lid and gold flakes on top. This is our only scented candle, and vanilla is a natural fit for a winter evening.

All three are made in our workshop in Jalandhar and shipped across India.

Matching the candle to the spot

Christmas at home in India usually means three places: a tree or crib corner, a dinner or lunch table, and a gift pile. Each wants a different candle.

The tree or crib corner. Keep flames well away from the tree itself, tinsel and paper decorations. A jar candle is the sensible pick here because the flame sits inside glass. Vanilla Reverie on a side table near the tree gives the warm glow and the smell of baking without an open flame near the branches.

The dinner table. Spiral pillars are made for this. Use three or five down the middle of the table, in holders that grip the base. They are tall and thin, so people can still see each other across the table. For a classic look, buy navy and ivory singles; for a cheerful family table, the full set of five.

Gifts. The braided pack and the vanilla jar are both complete gifts on their own. Add gift packaging and a note on the product page.

Christmas colours and which candle gives them

We do not make a deep Christmas green or a red pillar. If your table plan needs exactly those colours, look for them elsewhere and use our ivory spirals alongside.

If you want something we do not make: Christmas candles online in India

• Novelty Christmas candles (Santa, snowmen, trees, gingerbread): look for Christmas collections at home decor stores and marketplaces, which stock these from November.
• Christmas scents like cinnamon, pine or cranberry: specialist scented-candle brands carry seasonal ranges. Ours is vanilla only.
• Advent candles or tall dinner tapers: we do not make them; church supply shops and import home stores do.
• LED candles for the tree itself: never put a real flame on a tree. Use battery lights there.

• Free shipping on orders of Rs 999 or more; below that, Rs 79.

Safe candles at Christmas

Keep every flame away from the tree, cotton snow, crackers, wrapping paper and curious children. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting, burn candles on a stable, heat-proof surface, never leave them unattended, and do not burn them for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
