Candles or plants as a corporate gift for employees? Choose by where the gift will live and who will look after it

A plant is a living gift that can last for years if someone waters it and it gets light. A handmade candle needs no care, travels well to home addresses and suits festivals. Choose a plant for green desks and joining kits; choose a candle, such as the Raajkosh Shankh Candle at Rs 799 (shop price), for festive and anniversary gifts sent home.

Plant or candle: pick by where the gift will live

The honest answer is that both are good employee gifts, for different situations. A plant wins when the gift will sit on a desk or a balcony with daylight, when your team cares about green gifts, and when someone will water it. A handmade candle wins when the gift is going to many home addresses, when it is for a festival, and when you cannot be sure anyone has time or light for a living thing.

One question settles most cases: who will look after it? If the answer is unclear, a gift that needs no care is the kinder choice.

What a plant gift gets right

  • It can last for years. A hardy desk plant, looked after, outlives almost any other office gift.
  • It grows with the job. Given in a joining kit, it is a nice way to mark time at the company.
  • It suits a sustainability message. For an Earth Day or World Environment Day gift, a plant says the thing directly.
  • It brightens the office. If everyone keeps theirs at work, the floor looks greener for it.

Plants also have real limits. They need light and water, and a gift left on a desk over a long holiday can die. Shipping live plants to many home addresses across India, through heat and monsoon, is harder than shipping a boxed object. Some people simply do not want to be responsible for one.

What a handmade candle gets right

  • No care at all. It sits on a shelf until someone wants to light it.
  • It travels. A boxed candle goes to a flat in Pune or a family home in Ludhiana as easily as to the office.
  • It fits the festival. Wax diyas for Diwali, a shankh for the mandir, a teddy for a joining kit.
  • Unlit, it is still decor. Our shaped pieces look finished on a shelf without a flame.

The limits are just as real. A candle is used up as it burns, so it does not last like a well-kept plant. It is the wrong gift for an office that bans open flames unless people take it home or keep it unlit. And if your team wants fragrance, note that only one of our candles, Vanilla Reverie, is scented.
