Diya Candles

Chapter I

Diya Candles

Six candles, each poured into a terracotta-red diya with a carved lattice rim. They have the shape of every Diwali diya you remember, but they hold wax instead of oil, so there is no ghee to top up and nothing to spill on the rangoli. The wax is pure soy, hand-poured in small batches at our atelier in Jalandhar, and every diya is finished by hand, so no two are exactly alike. If you would like them scented, a custom fragrance is available on request through our custom orders page. A set of six is enough to line a doorway, a mandir shelf or the edge of a pooja thali. Diya Candles suit Diwali and wedding gifting, and they make an easy present for parents who love the old shapes done neatly. Add them to a gift chest with Matki or Urli Candles, or send them on their own, packed to royal packaging standards.

Matki Candles

Chapter II

Matki Candles

Four candles poured into little red matki pots, each hand-painted with a green and yellow vine running around its belly. The matki is the pot of the Indian kitchen and courtyard, and at this scale it sits neatly on a step, a windowsill or a mandir shelf. Inside is pure soy wax, hand-poured in Jalandhar. Because the painting is done by hand, the vine wanders a little differently on every pot, which is rather the point. Would you like them scented? Ask us about a custom fragrance. Light all four along a staircase for Diwali, set them on the table at a mehendi or sangeet, or give the set to parents who still keep a clay pot in the kitchen. Matki Candles pair well with Diya Candles in a gift chest, and they arrive packed to royal packaging standards.

Urli Candles

Chapter III

Urli Candles

A pair of flower-shaped urli bowls with a gold rim, filled with gold-flecked soy wax and topped with a yellow wax sunflower. The urli is the wide, shallow bowl usually filled with water and floating flowers at the entrance of a home; these keep the shape and trade the water for a flame. The wax is pure soy, hand-poured in Jalandhar and finished by hand, so the flecks of gold settle a little differently in each bowl. A custom fragrance can be added on request through custom orders. Set the pair either side of a doorway or the mandir, or in the middle of the dining table on a festival evening. Urli Candles are a graceful Diwali gift for parents, and a pair works well as a wedding or shagun present for a couple setting up home together.

More about Festival of Light

Festival of Light gathers the classic shapes of Diwali in hand-poured pure soy wax: terracotta-red diyas with a carved lattice rim, little red matkis hand-painted with a green and yellow vine border, and flower-shaped urlis with a gold rim and a yellow sunflower on top. They are the shapes most of us grew up lighting, without the oil.

Line a staircase or a balcony ledge with diyas and matkis, set the urlis at the entrance where guests slip off their shoes, or run a few down the table for the Diwali dinner. The colours are finished by hand, so every piece differs a little from the next, which is rather the point.

The same pieces suit wedding functions too: a mehndi table, a sangeet entrance, a row of return gifts. Pair them with sunflower or daisy tealights in a gift chest, or send them as they are. Shipping is free above ₹999, and orders are dispatched within 24–48 hours.
