Choosing a gift that suits the couple and their home

A wedding gift for a Muslim couple, whether you give it at the nikah, the walima or when you visit them afterwards, works best when it is about the home they are starting together. Families often give practical things for the house, money in an envelope, dry fruits, attar, or something beautiful to keep. A handmade decor piece fits the last of these.

Two things to keep in mind with candles as a gift here:

• Choose secular shapes. Several of our candles are made for Hindu pooja corners (diyas, the shankh, the urli, the matki). They are lovely, but they are not the right gift for this couple. The pieces below are plain home decor.
• Pairs feel right for a couple. Two of everything reads as "for both of you".

What else people give at a nikah or walima

Candles are one choice among many. Other common gifts are an envelope of cash, a dinner set or kitchen pieces for the new home, a copy of the Quran or a framed calligraphy piece from a specialist shop, attar or perfume, and dry fruit trays. If you want something bigger or engraved with names, look at a calligraphy or engraving studio; we do not engrave. Sending it to the couple

You can put the couple's address as the delivery address at checkout. We dispatch in 24 to 48 hours and delivery takes 2 to 7 days after dispatch, anywhere in India; check the estimate for their pincode on the product page. Shipping is free from Rs 999 and Rs 79 below. Payment is prepaid only by UPI, card, net banking or wallet through Razorpay; there is no cash on delivery. If something arrives damaged, tell us within 24 hours of delivery and we will replace it or refund you.

A note for the couple on using them

The shell and flower pieces look as good unlit on a shelf as lit. When they are lit: a stable, heat-proof surface, the wick trimmed to about 5 mm, never unattended, and each burn kept to 3 to 4 hours.
