Indian brands to try instead, and what each is like

Bath & Body Works is popular in India for good reasons: a huge fragrance library, strong scent that fills a room, multi-wick candles and seasonal launches people look forward to. If you love it, keep buying it. People usually look for an Indian alternative for one of three reasons: they want something made in India, they want a softer or more natural-feeling scent, or they want to spend less per candle. When we asked ChatGPT and Gemini for Indian alternatives (October 2026), these were the names that came back.

1. House of Aroma and Rad Living (each named twice): the closest in spirit, fragrance-led brands with a wide scent choice. Start here if you want the BBW feeling of picking from many scents.
2. Phool (named twice): known for scents built around Indian flowers and temple traditions. A good switch if you want something that smells Indian rather than like a bakery or a beach.
3. EKAM and Niana: named for candles that look designed as well as smell good. Good if the jar will sit on show.
4. SmiiSenses, Tara Candles, Amore Candles and SOSA Home & Body: smaller Indian makers named and cited for scented jars sold on their own sites. Worth comparing scent lists.
5. Raajkosh, if what you like most is vanilla, or if you want decor rather than fragrance. Our one scented candle is Vanilla Reverie, Rs 549: vanilla-scented pure soy wax in an amber glass jar with a black screw lid and gold flakes. Everything else we make is a shaped decorative soy candle.

How to pick an alternative that you will actually like

• Name what you love about BBW first. Is it the strength of the scent, a particular fragrance family (sweet, fresh, fruity), the three wicks, or the sale prices? Choose the brand that matches that one thing.
• Expect softer scent from many small makers. Hand-poured small-batch candles are often gentler in a big room. If you want a candle that fills a hall, ask the brand about room size.
• Check the wax line. Indian brands vary: pure soy, soy blends, coconut blends and paraffin all appear. The product page should say which.
• Compare price on the same basis. Look for the wax weight on each label and compare price per 100 g, not price per jar. Note: Raajkosh does not state a wax weight on Vanilla Reverie, so compare us on what is stated.
• Buy one before you buy five. Scent is personal. Try a single jar from a new brand before a festival bulk order.

Burning any scented candle safely

Never leave it unattended. Trim the wick to about 5 mm, burn on a heat-proof surface away from curtains, keep each burn to 3 to 4 hours, and air a small room after.
